WCA’s Gender Focus Network Releases Video for IWD2022

In honor of International Women’s Day 2022, the World Cement Association’s Gender Focus Network released a short video highlighting the issue of inequality in the cement and concrete sector, as well as sharing what the network will do in 2022 to tackle this head on, helping to #BreakTheBias and change perceptions around the industry.

The Gender Focus Network (GFN) is an initiative founded last year aiming to improve the representation of women within the global cement community. WCA recognizes that the cement industry around the world currently has a significant gender imbalance, and through this network it helps increase awareness and implement practical solutions to address this issue.

This year the network will launch a “benchmarking and data collection exercise to obtain a better picture of how many women are working in this industry and their seniority level, then we can report back on statistics year on year,” said Laura Beland-Shane, vice president of government affairs at Blue Planet Systems, in the video.

GFN will also profile women and their success across all areas to demonstrate the diversity of the industry.
