May Cement Shipments Down 7.5% from 2024        

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in May 2025 were an estimated 8.91 million metric tons (Mt), a 7.5% decrease from shipments in May 2024, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through May totaled an estimated 37.9 Mt, a 6.0% decrease from those for the same period in 2024. 

Of total blended tonnage reported year-to-date in 2025, 22.7 Mt (96%) was estimated to be portland-limestone cement (Type IL); the leading destination for Type IL shipments by tonnage was Texas. 

The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in May 2025 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan; these states accounted for 39.2% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received 39.9% of shipments in May.

Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 190,000 metric tons (t) in May 2025, a 6.5% decrease from those in May 2024. Shipments for the year through May totaled an estimated 860,000 t, a decrease of 8.0% from those for the same period in 2024. The leading masonry-cement consuming states in May 2025 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina, and Georgia; these states received 54.3% of shipments in May.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 6.38 Mt in May 2025 compared with 6.46 Mt in May 2024. Production for the year through May totaled an estimated 24.5 Mt, a 9.9% decrease from the same period in 2024. The leading clinker-producing states in May 2025 were, in descending order, California, Missouri, Texas, Florida and Alabama.
