Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in April 2015 were about 7.7 million metric tons (Mt), up by 4.1 percent from the level in April 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through April totaled 24.1 Mt, up by 5.1 percent from the same period in 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in April were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received about 39 percent of the April shipments.
Clinker production totaled 6.1 Mt in April 2015, up by 6.4 percent from the output in April 2014. Production for the year through April was 21.6 Mt, up by 7.7 percent from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in April were California, Texas, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and these accounted for about 46 percent of April’s total.
Masonry cement shipments in April 2015 of about 198,000 metric tons (t) were down by 2.5 percent from those of April 2014. Shipments for the year through April totaled 674,000 t, up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, California and Georgia, and these received about 51 percent of April’s shipments.
