Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2015 were about 8.9 million metric tons (Mt), up by 7.6 percent from the level in June 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through June totaled 40.8 Mt, up by 3.6 percent from the same period in 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in June were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Michigan, in descending order, and accounted for about 41 percent of total apparent output. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received about 36 percent of the June shipments.
Clinker production totaled 7.0 Mt in June 2015, up by 7.2 percent from the output in June 2014. Production for the year through June was 35.3 Mt, up by 4.7 percent from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in June were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
Masonry cement shipments in June 2015 of about 220,000 metric tons (t) were up by 6.1 percent from those of June 2014. Shipments for the year through June were 1.09 Mt, up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received 51 percent of June’s shipments.
