Cemex will invest $320 million in the development of a solar farm project in Zacatecas, Mexico, according to local media. The facility will have an output capacity of 378 MW.
Beatriz Padilla García, business development advisor of Cemex Energia, revealed the initiative during the second energy meeting organized by the Nuevo León Energy Cluster in Monterrey, Mexico, reported Reforma.
The goal is to start operations by mid-2019, contingent on securing the necessary financing. García said that the operation scheme has not yet been determined, but the intention is to sell the electricity generated by the solar park to private clients.
She stressed that Zacatecas was chosen because of the great solar resources it has and the advantages it offers. “The Zacatecas weather brings the best performance out of the panels,” she added.
In Mexico, Cemex currently operates a thermoelectric plant in San Luis Potosí that generates 230 MW, and wind farms in Oaxaca (250 MW) and Nuevo León (422 MW).
