Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2020 were 8.6 million metric tons (Mt), a 9% increase from shipments in November 2019, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through November totaled 95.3 Mt, a slight increase from those for the same period in 2019.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November 2020 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia) received 40% of November shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled 178,000 metric tons in November 2020, a 5% increase from those in November 2019. Shipments for the year through November totaled 2.2 Mt, a 2% decrease from those for the same period in 2019. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in November 2020 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Tennessee and North Carolina; these states received 56% of November shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 7.1 Mt in November 2020, essentially unchanged from production in November 2019. Production for the year through November totaled 71.9 Mt, a slight decrease from that for the same period in 2019. The leading clinker-producing states in November 2020 were, in descending order, California, Texas, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
