Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in October 2021 were an estimated 9.9 million metric tons (Mt), a slight decrease from shipments in October 2020, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through October totaled an estimated 89.7 Mt, a 3.5% increase from those for the same period in 2020.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in October 2021 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan; these states accounted for 39% of cement origins. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia) received 37% of October shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 204,000 metric tons in October 2021, a slight decrease from those in October 2020. Shipments for the year through October totaled an estimated 2.0 Mt, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2020. The leading masonry cement consuming states in October 2021 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, California and Georgia; these states received 61% of October shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 7.4 Mt in October 2021, a 2.9% increase from production in October 2020. Production for the year through October totaled an estimated 65.1 Mt, essentially unchanged from the same period in 2020. The leading clinker-producing states in October 2021 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
