Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in December 2014 were 6.2 million metric tons (Mt), up by 22 percent from the level in December 2013, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the full year were 88.4 Mt, up by about 8 percent from those in 2013.
The leading Portland-cement-producing states in December were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 41 percent of the December shipments.
Clinker production totaled 6.5 Mt in December 2014, up by about 25 percent from the output in December 2013. Production for the year overall totaled 74.9 Mt, up by about 7 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in December were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in December 2014 of about 169,000 metric tons (t) were down by about 24 percent from those of December 2013. Shipments for the full year totaled almost 2.3 Mt, up by 6 percent. The leading masonry cement consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received 55 percent of December’s shipments.
