MSHA Reports CalPortland Fatality

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reported that on Jan. 17 a miner was fatally injured at the CalPortland Mojave Plant and Quarry in Kern County, Calif., when his personal car collided with a customer truck while traveling toward each other on an icy mine access road.

DOE Powers Solar MEAD Project with $3.2 Million Funding

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded $3.2 million to Solar MEAD, a joint project headed by CEMEX, Sandia National Laboratories and Synhelion. The project aims to replace the use of fossil fuels with concentrated solar thermal (CST) energy in clinker production.
