Metso closed on the acquisition of the UK-based combustion solutions and technology provider Kiln Flame Systems Ltd. (KFS) to extend its pyro processing portfolio and capabilities.

The Portland Cement Association (PCA) announced the appointment of Continental Cement Co. President Tom Beck as chairman of the board of directors, and GCC of America President Ron Henley as vice chairman. Beck takes over PCA board chairmanship from Allen Hamblen, president and CEO of CalPortland Co. 

At the opening of Capital Markets Day 2018, LafargeHolcim announced that its executing at full speed on the company’s Strategy 2022 – “Building for Growth,” which was launched in March. In the course of the year, the company has delivered solid results, developed positive momentum and showed significant progress at increasing profitable growth. 

Cemex will invest $320 million in the development of a solar farm project in Zacatecas, Mexico, according to local media. The facility will have an output capacity of 378 MW.

The World Cement Association (WCA) announced the opening of its Beijing and President’s office. The facility will be an addition to the association’s headquarters in London and will be located at the building of China National Building Material Group (CNBM). 

Employees of the Cemex Brooksville, Fla., plant who voted late last month to unionize did so with improving safety as their top priority, reported the Tampa Bay Times.

The Portland Cement Association (PCA) Market Intelligence Group forecast for cement consumption over the next two years, shows less growth compared with 2018. This year’s rate of change is 2.9 percent; growth recedes to 2.6 percent in 2019 and to 1.6 percent in 2020.

LafargeHolcim announced plans to build three wind turbines to help power its cement plant in Paulding, Ohio. Adding the turbines is part of the company’s commitment to improving manufacturing operations, controlling costs and operating sustainably.
