October Cement Shipments Up 8.8%

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in October 2022 were an estimated 10.7 million metric tons (Mt), an 8.8% increase from shipments in October 2021, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through October totaled an estimated 94.0 Mt, an increase of 4.6% from those for the same period in 2021. 

The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in October 2022 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan and Florida; these states accounted for 39.1% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received 36.5% of October shipments. 

Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 226,000 metric tons in October 2022, a 7.6% increase from those in October 2021. Shipments for the year through October totaled an estimated 2.2 Mt, an increase of 7.9% from those for the same period in 2021. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in October 2022 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and California; these states received 61.0% of October shipments. 

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 7.5 Mt in October 2022, a 2.8% increase from production in October 2021. Production for the year through October totaled an estimated 66.0 Mt, a slight increase from the same time period in 2021. The leading clinker- producing states in October 2022 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
