Cement Shipments Jump 7% in June

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2022 were an estimated 10.8 million metric tons (Mt), a 7.0% increase from shipments in June 2021, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through June totaled an estimated 52.4 Mt, an increase of 4.0% from those for the same period in 2021. 

The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in June 2022 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Florida and Michigan; these states accounted for 39.3% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois) received 36.7% of June shipments.

Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 238,000 metric tons in June 2022, a 9.0% increase from those in June 2021. Shipments for the year through June totaled an estimated 1.3 Mt, an increase of 5.7% from those for the same period in 2021. The leading masonry-cement-consuming States in June 2022 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received 60.5% of June shipments.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 6.9 Mt in June 2022, a decrease of 4.2% from production in June 2021. Production for the year through June totaled an estimated 37.1 Mt, essentially unchanged from the same period in 2021. The leading clinker- producing states in June 2022 were, in descending order, California, Missouri, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania; these states accounted for 48.3% of June clinker production.
